    FROM SCREEN TO STRING

    One side creates.
    The other comes alive.

    01

    Choose your materials

Start with 16 hanging strands. Each folded cord creates two strands. Set your finished length and fringe before estimating your cord budget.

    02

Place a knot on the left

Square knots use four adjacent strands: two working strands outside and two fillers inside. Double half hitches use two strands: a holding strand and a working strand. The mirror reverses the strand numbers and direction.

    03

    Follow the making order

Work from the wooden dowel downwards. Make each left knot and its mirrored partner before moving to the next row. Export the numbered blueprint and make a small sample first.

    THE KNOT LIBRARY

    Know your knots.

    Square knot

Pass the left working strand over both fillers and behind the right strand. Bring the right strand behind the fillers and through the left loop. Tighten. Repeat with the right strand starting over the fillers to complete the square knot.

    Double half hitch

Keep the holding strand taut at the desired angle. Wrap the working strand around it and through its own loop. Tighten, then repeat once with the same working strand. Reverse the holding direction for its mirror.

    Lark’s head attachment

Fold each cut cord in half. Place the folded loop over the dowel, bring the two ends through the loop, then pull evenly. Eight folded cords create sixteen hanging strands.

    AT THE MAKING TABLE

    A few useful answers.

Is this a physical knot simulator?

This is a schematic design and planning tool. It records the strand groups, knot type, row and mirrored direction. It checks strand overlap within a row, but does not simulate tension, drape or every over-and-under crossing of real cord. Test your design with a sample.

How much cord should I cut?

The estimate starts at 4–6 times the knotted length per strand, adds the fringe, then doubles the length for a folded cut cord and adds 15% allowance. Denser knots, thicker cord and tighter tension may need more. All cut cords are estimated at the same conservative length; use a sample to refine it.

    Where is my pattern saved?

Projects stay in local storage on this browser, shared between the English and Korean studio. Clearing browser data can remove them. Export a JSON project for a portable copy; import it to continue on another device.

Can I print or reuse the design?

Yes. Download an SVG blueprint, a PNG image or an editable JSON project. Print the pattern and numbered making sequence using your browser’s Save as PDF option. The included examples are original editable studies.
